Nicholas Carr in his book, The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brain
laments the impact of the Internet on our brain's creativity and
capacity for deep thinking. I enjoyed Mr. Carr's guided tour of
technology's advent and growth and development. I particularly enjoyed
his explanation of the development of Google. Nicholas Carr quotes many
naysayers' gloomy outlook about the technology of their time such as the
book, the telegraph and the radio. He pins the guilt of inattention
and shallow thinking of today to the ever present interruption that
being "connected" brings. Having all the information of the world
available to me with a few clicks will re-wire my brain and spell my
impending mental doom. Oh me, oh my. I must throw away my computer.
